The Nemetschek Group: Driving OPEN BIM
The Nemetschek Group is a leader in developing and promoting OPEN BIM solutions and workflows to enable seamless and free collaboration of the different disciplines along the complete building lifecycle, regardless of their choice of software.
What is OPEN BIM?
OPEN BIM is a progressive, digital, future-proof approach to improve collaboration across the AEC/O industry. It helps connecting different stakeholders involved in a building or infrastructure project by allowing them to exchange project information through neutral, non-proprietary file formats.
The use of open standards benefits everyone creating, processing, importing or exporting BIM data – from the planning, tendering and design phases, through construction, all the way to the operational phase. It positively affects a variety of software users such as architects, engineers and builders, but also property managers as well as clients/owners to co-create great buildings.
OPEN BIM creates a singular language, ensuring workflow transparency, longevity and accessibility of data for built assets – ideally in real-time, cloud-based and from one single “source of truth”.
Nemetschek Group: Partner of buildingSMART
OPEN BIM is based upon open standards such as IFC from buildingSMART. The Nemetschek Group is a buildingSMART member and fully support its openBIM program. We are also fully dedicated to the high quality standards defined by our OPEN BIM Charter and represented by our OPEN BIM logo.
The six OPEN BIM principles
We believe that...
- Interoperability between project stakeholders must not be used as grounds for competition
- Interoperability should be facilitated via development and support of open standards
- Rigorous testing and certification criteria are a must for quality support of open standards
- Proprietary format mandates must not be used to exclude candidates from project work
- Free choice of software in project work must be a basic right for any project stakeholder
- Industry stakeholders must publicly endorse and promote OPEN BIM in the AEC community
The benefits of OPEN BIM
All participants in a construction project benefit from open interfaces and neutral data standards.
